You have to be truly disiplined to use a credit card. It was something my Mom taught me long before I even had the money to open a checkbook that a credit card is a 30 day loan that comes due and must be paid in full at the end of the month. Therefore, I do get the protections that come with a credit card for buying online, but I don't pay interest.

To do that we don't buy everything on the credit card. We budget and use cash for more things than other people because even using debit cards you can spend more than you think you are spending. We deposit back change and extra cash that we didn't use.

If you can't be disciplined than you can't use credit because the interest will destroy your financial plan.

As for cheap clothing it all depends on what it is. I buy lots of cheap t-shirts and they last just as long as the more expensive ones I've bought. However jeans I spend a little more on because they don't last when I go cheap.

As for kids clothing my Mom has become and expert in buying quality clothing names for her great grandkids at thrift stores some with the tags still on them at cheaper prices than the badly made stuff you can buy at the cheaper stores. It takes time to find the right sizes, etc. but especially for kids where they do grow so quickly thrift stores are often a great way to get better names at affordable prices. I only wish she'd done this when we were children.
