I don’t know about you, but I love marked down meat! It is still good and at low prices. Buying and freezing it is a great way to save money on meat.
How to Save Money on Meat
This was my meat from today’s shopping trip. Notice the largest 2.5 lbs ground beef is only $1.38!!!! Score! It was hidden too. (People do hide the good priced items, so make sure you dig around.)
I freeze most of my meat and put into portion sizes. It helps with meal prep, wastefulness and saves you money.
Tip:
This meat all came from Kroger. I love their marked down items. They are in 3-4 different areas of the store and I always make sure I hit them up. I mostly buy meat, but sometimes I can find canned goods, formula, non-perishable items and more.
Sales
Sales are a great place to start when you want to save money on meat. Sales can either save you pennies or dollars, depending on how good the sale is. The main rule of thumb though is to make sure you grab the best looking meat, as it will stay good longer. Sometimes the meat is on sale in the ad, and sometimes it is that store having the sale. This usually means they have an overstock of it.
Marked Down Items
Marked Down Items are where you really want to focus. They will have them in 2 different places in Seafood and a Section in meat, but sometimes they just mark them down and keep them with the non-marked down items. Keep an eye out. Marked down items means you either need to freeze it or cook it right away. They are nearing going bad.
Ask for a Discount
This is another way to sometimes get a better deal. Ask the butcher/meat/seafood department if that is the best price they can do it if it is slightly turning color, see if they will mark it down. It never hurts to ask.
How to make meat last:
We use Ziploc vacuum freezer bags, which are amazing. They are a great investment, plus we wash and reuse use them a few times before throwing them away. It makes my meat last up to 12 months in my freezer! We did invest in a small deep freezer to help save money in the long run by stocking up on meat and freezer safe items. Saving money on meat will cut your grocery bill down a decent amount if you are a meat eater. I even find chicken at great prices!
