Fuel isn’t cheap. It’s not unusual for prices to go up substantially overnight. But, there is some good news in all of this. There are several easy ways to save money on gas. Here’s how…
Plan Efficient Trips
One of the best ways to keep your gas budget in check is to avoid driving more than you have to. It’s best to take care of all of your errands in one trip, if possible. For example, rather than taking a trip to the store every few days for groceries, try to go shopping for several weeks at once so you won’t have to make so many trips.
Avoid the Air Conditioner
On a hot day, your car’s air conditioning makes a long trip less grueling. But, running the A/C causes the vehicle to burn through gas much quicker. Turn the air conditioner off and roll down the windows, instead. This allows air to circulate through the car, which keeps things cooler.
Don’t Leave the Engine Running
Letting the engine run while you’re not driving is always a waste of money. This includes starting the car to warm it up during the winter. Save money on gas by not letting your vehicle run for more than a minute or two before you head out. It really does make a difference!
Drive Slow and Steady
The most fuel efficient way to drive is to keep a consistent speed so the engine doesn’t keep burning more fuel to accelerate. Driving fast also forces the car create more drag, which means it takes more gas to overcome the resistance of the air it’s driving through.
Don’t Fill Up Near the Highway
When you start to run out of gas on the highway, you have no choice but to fill up at a station near the closest exit. Because of this, these stations tend to charge much higher prices than those further from the highway.
Stop for gas well before you run out, so you have time to drive away from the nearest exit and find the station with the best price.
There are just a few ways to save money on gas. It may not initially seem like you’re saving much. But, in this case, the savings really does add up over time.
