Keeping your bathrooms clean can seem like a full-time job, especially if you have kids at home. But did you know that there are some items that you should be replacing entirely, in addition to all your cleaning?
Here are a few bathroom items that need regular replacement to keep your space clean and sanitary.
Towels
You might think that your towels don’t get that dirty, since you usually use them after cleaning your hands or body. However, towels can be a nesting ground for bacteria and germs, especially if they aren’t washed often enough. Many recommendations say that you should be washing your towels after every third or fourth use, which means that you could need to wash your towels twice each week.
After a lot of use, your towels will become worn out and they won’t be as effective to use, especially if you’re staying up with this rigorous washing schedule. In this case, you should replace your towels entirely. Generally, you’ll need to replace your towels around every two years. Your small hand towels and washcloths might need to be replaced more often if they get used more frequently.
Toothbrushes
Another bathroom item that will often need replacing is a toothbrush. Ideally, the members of your family should be brushing their teeth several times a day. After a few months, their toothbrushes won’t be as effective since the bristles will become worn down.
Since they’ll be bent and more flexible, they won’t clean teeth as effectively. You should replace your child’s toothbrush every three to four months. Using fresh toothbrushes will help to keep your family’s teeth healthy and avoid cavities or other infections.
Loofah Sponges
If you’ve ever used a loofah sponge, you likely have one in need of replacement. Loofah sponges come in many shapes and sizes and they help you to wash and exfoliate your skin in the bath or shower. They can make cleaning yourself easier, and kids often like the texture and feel of them. However, they can develop a lot of bacteria quite quickly since they’re used in a humid environment. Natural loofah sponges made from organic materials need to be replaced every three or four weeks. Plastic loofah sponges can last a little longer but should still be replaced around every month or two. This will keep any bacteria from growing on the loofah that could then be transferred to your skin when you’re using your loofah in the shower or bath.
So, if you’re trying to keep your bathroom clean and fresh, remember these items that should be replaced regularly. Your bathroom towels, toothbrushes, and loofah sponges should be replaced regularly to keep your bathroom and your body clean. Doing so will help you to have a healthier and happier household.
