Is your garage so packed with things that you can’t even fit your car in there? Cluttered areas of our home also take up precious space in our heads, making it harder to focus. If your garage is one of these chaotic places, it might be time to buckle down and tackle the garage.
Declutter
The first thing you need to do is declutter the garage. Are there empty boxes that have accumulated over time for no apparent reason? Remove them. Are there random leftover parts from projects scattered throughout the garage? Get rid of them. If you’ve stored things in the garage as simply a way to put them out of sight and out of mind, now is the time to deal with them. If the item in question does not have a purpose or make your life better, then it is time to get rid of it. This may be the time where you hold a garage sale to get rid of the excess things in your garage that you no longer need.
Clean
After you’ve decluttered your garage, you can then start cleaning it. Wipe down shelving units, dust the bikes hanging from the ceiling hooks, and wash down the concrete floor of the garage. A dirty garage feels more chaotic than a clean one. Cleaning a garage helps you calm down the chaos by getting rid of the grime and dust. Once your garage is cleaned, you can then move on to organizing it.
Organize
Organizing your garage is what will help you keep your garage from becoming a chaotic mess in the future. You can use organizational racks to stack storage bins out of the way. You can use shelving units to organize your tools. Organize your tools in ways that make sense and that will help you keep track of them. You don’t want your garage to become a mess of disorder because you forgot to give something its place. Your Christmas decorations should have their spot of the garage, just like your work tools. Giving everything a place will calm the chaos and make your garage much easier to navigate.
Your garage deserves to be as clean and organized as the rest of your home and taking the time to do so will help you not only find things in your garage, but it will make your life less stressful.
