Few people have time to cook dinner every day, and yet, cooking at home is much cheaper and healthier than eating out. Fortunately, there are ways to eat home-cooked meals most of the time without the stress and work of cooking every single day of the week! Here are a few ideas.
Plan Simple Meals
Sticking with your goal to eat more home-cooked meals will be much easier with a meal plan. A meal plan is most effective if you can rotate through a week or two of simple meals that everyone enjoys. You don’t have to cook a gourmet meal for it to be delicious and nutritious. Look online for good, healthy, easy recipe ideas that you can add to your rotation.
Many grocery stores will even let you create and save online lists. You can create a long-term grocery list for each week of meals and have it delivered straight to your car, saving you both time and money.
Make Enough for Leftovers
As part of your meal planning, why not include a few leftover days? It is much easier to make twice as much food and eat the leftovers the next day than it is to make two separate meals. If you don’t want to eat the same meal two days in a row, consider investing in a vacuum food sealer.
Vacuum sealing food can help you save food for later in the week. The vacuum seal holds in flavor while keeping the food fresh longer.
Make Freezer Meals on the Weekend
Many busy parents make nightly dinners at home work by creating a week’s worth of freezer meals to pull out and heat up after work. If stored correctly, most meals will be just as delicious out of the freezer as they are fresh. Examples include BBQ chicken sandwiches, chicken pot pie, lasagna, and enchiladas. Look online for more ideas and to find delicious recipes. If you have free time on the weekends but can’t catch a break during the week, freezer meals are the way to go!
You can feed your family delicious, home-cooked meals without slaving away in the kitchen every night. It all starts with a strategic meal plan. Include leftovers and freezer meals to make things even easier on yourself. Meal prep shouldn’t be a full-time job! No one has time for that! But eating out isn’t usually the answer, either. Instead, simplify your life by planning ahead!
