TV is life most days, but man is it expensive. Watching TV as a family is normal, so is sports, cartoons and cop shows! (I am addicted to cop shows) One thing you can do is invest in internet and streaming devices. This will save you money. We love different ones for different reasons, so make sure you look into each one before you decide. Also, remember some cable/satellite companies lock you into a contract. Look into the date it ends or the options to cancel it.

My husband is an expert on all these sorts of things, he cancelled our cable and we have an android tv that we can watch just about anything on.

These days, we do mostly Amazon prime (free b/c we have prime) and occasional Redbox vids. We have totally nixed all cable for years now and have no need to go back. The kids have grown up without a TV habit, and they don’t complain much about it b/c it’s just how they’ve always had it. The main issue we have now, as the boys grow older, is access to sports they want to follow. Working to figure that one out 🙂

We live on Hulu and amazon prime video. Right now we are waiting for our contract to end with at&t so we can cut dish out. I hate the wait, but it is expensive to cancel.

Cable is getting so expensive just for you to record and watch The shows when you have time ???? I have been looking in to Hulu
Misty Eilar says
I hate the cost of cable or dish. It is crazy. Sports are the hardest to watch without it, but there are ways.

We have Netflix, Hulu, a Fire Stick and Amazon yet we still have cable. I don’t know what my problem is but I think I need to rethink things a bit..
Misty Eilar says
Haha, it is the same as us. We are just stuck in our contract.

We finally have Netflix here and compare to the price of the cable where we live; Netflix is a way better deal! Can’t live without Netflix anymore ^^
Misty Eilar says
Netflix is a good deal. I just wish they didn’t change shows so much that they offer Ha Ha.

I had no idea about all these streaming devices! I need to talk about it with my husband haha thanks for sharing 🙂
Misty Eilar says
You’re welcome. Let him know I will be doing a post on how to access sports when you don’t have cable or dish!

I always thought cable is so expensive too. Streaming makes the most sense for our family! I’m def ready to make the switch.
Misty Eilar says
Cable is expensive. Just find the best fit for you when you look to stream.

Ooh! I like the Android Shield TV streaming device. We have the Roku, as well. We just the shield and are breaking it in. I love that it can be used as a Plex server.

We use our smart tv that is chromecast along with amazon video and hulu! So much cheaper than cable or satalite.

Your post is so timely! We are looking for alternatives to cable. Thanks so much for this. I’m going to share it with my husband. Cheers!

You’re welcome! It took a bit to get my husband to come around to switching.
